Programme Wide

The JISC/HEA Open Educational Resources pilot programme has sought compile an analysis of evaluation findings from across the whole programme; from the subject, individual, and institutional strands. Clearly there will be some differences in the scope of the evaluation criteria across these different areas, however issues pertaining to copyright and ownership will be common to all strands. The summative findings of the programme wide pilot evaluation (led by Glasgow Caledonian University) are collated in the JISC OER Infokit.

Evaluation

One of the key findings, across the pilot programme, is that 'quality', 'processes', 'review, and 'evaluation' are very consonant terms when trying to support release and reuse of open educational resources. The lessons learned from the pilot project, the approaches adopted and barriers overcome, will collectively inform the wider community and offer models and guidance to support wider release in the UK.

C-SAP OER Evaluation

Our pilot project appointed Graham Gibbs, Reader in Social Research Methods at the University of Huddersfield, as the formal evaluator. Graham has considerable experience in developing and working with e-learning and technology supported learning, and has a number of current project drawing upon technology to enhance the teaching of social science research methods (see for example the REQUALLO project).

Graham provided a summative end of project evaluation, supported by interviews with our key academic partners. He also offered a developmental approach to feedback, recognizing the novelty of the OER process and participating in project meetings, to support the iterative development of the project's methodology.

The general aim of the evaluation interviews was to establish partners’ experiences with opening up their educational resources, and to examine to what extent other academics could do the same with their material.
