Workshop on Teaching Islamic Studies in Scotland
DescriptionFollowing its launch in May, the new Islamic Studies Network in the UK is sponsoring a cross-disciplinary workshop for those working in Islamic Studies and related disciplines at higher education institutions in Scotland. This event aims to bring together teachers of Islamic Studies from a wide range of disciplines (e.g. Theology and Religious Studies, History, Politics, Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, Law, Business and Finance), and is open to both specialists and non-specialists who teach on modules related to Islam. This will be an opportunity for practitioners to network, gain a sense of the different ways in which Islamic Studies is taught in the Scottish context, share practice, and discuss region-specific issues in the teaching of Islamic Studies. Although the workshop is primarily aimed at those working in Islamic Studies in Scotland, participants from other regions are also welcome to attend. Further workshops will be held in the south of England (December 2010), Wales (February 2011), and the north of England (April/May 2011). PhD students involved in teaching are also welcome to attend, though they may also be interested in attending one of the Islamic Studies Network’s postgraduate workshops to be held in November 2010 and April 2011. This workshop is free to attend for employees and postgraduates of publicly-funded higher education institutions. There is a charge of £50 for employees and postgraduates from private institutions or organisations. Please contact us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
