 A two-day residential event for recently-appointed teaching staff, postdocs and post-graduates with teaching responsibilities to explore issues, share ideas, consider future needs and build support networks. The emphasis is on addressing practical issues and the realities of balancing academic roles when people might be located either in specialist subject or multi-disciplinary departments.   The programme is broadly indicative and may change to meet the needs/interests of the group.

16.00 - 17.00               What is 'good teaching'?

17.00 – 18.00              Preparing for the PhD viva (optional) or getting published (optional)

19.00 onwards            Evening meal at Hotel Restaurant and networking

14.00 - 15.00               Where next? Using networks – subject associations, C-SAP, etc.

15.00 – 15.30              Final session – questions and evaluation.

15.30                           Finish and depart

The event will be led by Professor Ranald Macdonald, Senior Associate: Professional Development, C-SAP, with support from representatives of the subject associations in sociology, anthropology, politics and international studies, and criminology.
